LIBRARIAN

SUMMARY 

The position of Librarian is a full-time (100 %) onsite position at Lexington Theological Seminary. The librarian is flexible and conscientious, a self-motivated person who works well in a team environment as well as independently. They will assist the Director of Library Services in daily operations and serve the LTS community’s library needs in a variety of ways.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Public responsibilities
    1. Reference Desk
      1. Assist patrons
      1. Answer phone and emails
      1. Check in and out books
      1. Keep manual statistics of library use
      1. Mail or scan book or article requests
      1. Processing holds in WMS
      1. Check books in and out in WMS
      1. Process ILL in WMS
    1. Research
      1. Assisting faculty (includes course syllabi, scans, research interests, etc.)
      1. Assisting students
    1. Other
      1. Shelving newly acquired books
      1. Reshelving returned books
      1. Pre-searching gift books
      1. Other library tasks as they arise
  2. Technical
    1. Maintain subscriptions and receive print journals
    1. Perform copy cataloguing
    1. Perform shelf-preparation of newly acquired books
    1. Other tasks such as inventory
    1. Creation of Library Guides

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Desired Education and Experience

  • Masters in Library Sciences from an ALA accredited institution is required, with knowledge or degree in theological studies preferred
  • At least two (2) years of library experience
  • Some experience or knowledge of online libraries
  • Two (2) year experience with library research methods
  • Knowledgeable in OCLC Worldshare Management System (WMS)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Excellent skills in written and oral communication
  2. Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
  3. Ability to work with a variety of people – students, staff, faculty, public who seek use of the library
  4. Computer literacy in Microsoft Office word processing, desktop publishing, e-mail/task management, as well as comfort with Skype, Zoom, and social media
  5. Flexible, cooperative, and problem-solving orientation to work and relationships
  6. Organized and detail-oriented
