One of Seminary’s Eldest Alums Passes at Age 100

Glenva Starcher Lewis passed away June 23 at the age of 100 years old. She was our third oldest living alumnus, having celebrated her birthday on April 4. Advancement Associate Rev. Katherine Raley had the honor of visiting her at her Lexington, Ky., home along with Mrs. Lewis’s pastor at New Union Christian Church, the Rev. Deb Phelps. Rev. Raley presented her with a certificate and card from the Seminary.
Originally from Cottageville, West Virginia, Mrs. Lewis graduated from the College of the Bible in 1946 with a Master of Religious Education. Later she worked as a mathematics teacher at Fayette County Public Schools, and ministered as a support to her husband, Benjamin Franklin Lewis, who pastored New Union Christian Church, in addition to other ministry, and taught Philosophy and Religion at Transylvania College (now Transylvania University).
