2016-17 Moosnick Lecture Series

lahore-2016-1The Moosnick Lecture Series for the 2016-17 academic year is Professor Reuven Firestone, Regenstein Professor in Medieval Judaism and Islam at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Los Angeles, CA.

Dr. Firestone is one of the country’s leading authorities on the relationship of Judaism and Islam, and the author of numerous books; including Journeys in Holy Land; Jihad: the Origin of Holy War in Islam; Children of Abraham: An Introduction to Judaism for Muslims; An Introduction to Islam for Jews; and Who are the Real Chosen People: The Meaning of Chosenness in Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

On Tuesday, November 15, at 7 p.m. in Carrick Theater, Transylvania University, he will present on “How the Birth Pangs of Religion Complicate Peacemaking Between Faith Communities.”

On Wednesday, November 16, at 7 p.m. at Ohavay Zion synagogue, he will present on “Diversity of Religious Expression in Islam.”
