Dr. Margaret Ralph- The Lay School of Theology Fall 2013

The Synoptic Gospels and Acts

Since Mark, Matthew, and Luke’s Gospels are so similar, and since Mark is a source for the other two, why do we have all three in the canon? Aren’t they redundant? By comparing Matthew and Luke with their common sources and with each other, we can discern the pastoral and theological concerns of each inspired editor.  By also considering the Acts of the Apostles, we can understand more deeply the concerns of first century Christians.
