Field Education at LTS
One major component of the Master of Divinity degree is Field Education. Field Education provides supervised learning experiences in Christian ministry. The goal is to help students become "practical theologians," which is the ability to think theologically about the work of ministry.
Congregations and church-related agencies serve as partners with the Seminary in providing practical learning experiences through supervised ministry positions.
Within the context of helping students become practical theologians, the goals of Field Education are:
- To help students recognize and understand their personal strengths and weaknesses while developing a theologically sound model for ministry.
- To acquire professional ministerial skills.
- To integrate the various disciplines and components of theological education, including classroom learning, professional skills, personal attitudes, and spiritual formation.
- To learn to question and evaluate church practices as part of ministerial work.
