  • Lay School of Theology - October 2,9,16, and 23

    Oct 2, 2010 8:30am - Oct 23, 2010 12:00pm
    Lexington Theological Seminary

Revelation is a book which often frightens or confuses its present-day readers. It is full of what seem to us to be strange and ominous symbols and events. But Revelation was meant to comfort and encourage rather than to frighten. This study of Revelation will try to show how this book can be read today in a way that profitable for our Christian lives and faithful to the book itself.

In these sessions we will give special attention to the kind of writing Revelation belongs within, that is Apocalyptic. We will see that one of the reasons the original readers received and embraced this writing in ways it is difficult for us to do is that they were familiar with Apocalyptic writings and so knew better than we know how to read it.

Rather than being irrelevant, Revelation will show itself to be a book that gives us an important Chrisitian perspective on the world and on how we can maintain faithfulness in a world that is not what God wants it to be.
